Munich malt is a dark base malt that gives a reddish colour when used in large amounts. It has a rich malty flavour.
It can convert itself (i.e. it can be mashed alone) but doesn’t have enough diastatic power to convert adjuncts, so use with pale malts if necessary.
It forms the basis of Bock type beers but can also be used to add complexity to other recipes, for example porter.
